Notifying us of an accident
Guidance for industry on how to notify an accident.
RAIB operates under the provisions set out in the Railways (Accident Investigation and Reporting) Regulations 2005. The Regulations require the railway industry to notify us about certain railway accidents and incidents involving their property or staff.
Where on-site information and evidence may be important, we must be contacted as soon as the railway organisation concerned becomes aware of an occurrence. Any delay at this stage may result in the loss of important evidence. It also enables us, where necessary, to mobilise quickly to site, carry out our work and return the site to operation as soon as possible.
