Investigation into an incident at Poplar Farm level crossing, Attleborough, Norfolk on 1 July 2008
The incident occurred at 16:12 hrs when the 15:52 hrs East Midlands Trains service from Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street approached the level crossing when the level crossing gates were open to allow road users to cross. Three vehicles, one of which was a mobility scooter, were able to cross before the train reached the crossing, and a fourth vehicle had to reverse clear from the crossing.
The RAIB’s preliminary examination indicates no issues with the condition or operation of the train or with the drivers of the road vehicles that could have contributed to the incident.
The RAIB’s investigation is independent of any investigations by the safety authority.
The RAIB will publish a report, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of its investigation. This report will be available on the RAIB website.
