Investigation into a collision at Leigh on Sea on 26 April 2008
The collision occurred at 06:27 hrs. Train 6T63, an engineering train from Whitemoor to Benfleet was stationary in an engineering possession when the following train, 6T64, also from Whitemoor to Benfleet, struck it at 15 mph (24 km/h).
No-one was injured in the collision, but two wagons were severely damaged. The trains were recovered within the time of the engineering possession.
On the basis of a preliminary examination there is no indication that the condition of the train or the signalling system caused the collision.
