Investigation into a minor collision of an engineering unit near St John's Wood, City of Westminster, on 25 October 2007
At 02:40 hrs Engineering staff from Tubelines placed a unit consisting of a battery powered cart and two trailers on the track between St John’s Wood and Baker Street during Engineering Hours work. When the unit was subsequently moved down the gradient towards Baker Street the driver had difficulty in stopping normally, and the unit collided at slow speed with two manually powered trolleys. The driver of the unit had shouted a warning, and all staff at the trolleys had stood clear, so no injuries resulted.
The RAIB’s initial examination indicates that the driving of the unit did not contribute to the incident.
The RAIB's investigation into the incident is proceeding independently of any parallel investigations by the safety authority, but the RAIB will share technical evidence as appropriate, subject to legal exclusions such as the identity and statements of witnesses.
The RAIB will publish a report, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of its investigation. This report will be available on the RAIB website.
